Quote 31
Hello there! Let's talk about some funny subtleties and idioms of our mother tongues Several examples for the Russian language: Only in Russian you can make up a sentence, consisting of five consecutive letters of the alphabet: «Где ёж?» ("Where is a hedgehog?"). Also, you can make up a sentence, consisting of just three vowels: «Э, а я?» ("Uh, and what about me?"). As well, not a problem to make up a sentence with just five verbs, without any punctuation marks and conjunctions: «Решили послать сходить купить выпить» ((We) decided to send (someone) to buy drinks). The meaning of the phrase «Да нет, наверное» (literal translation: "Yes no, probably") is that your interlocutor expresses the uncertain negation, with a tinge of possibility of the positive decision. «Очень умный» ("Very clever") is not always a compliment, and «Умный очень» — almost always is a mockery Hazelnut
Morgana 780
I found a funny German grammar problem Even all German people do it wrong Sooo in Germany we have two different ways to say the English word "the same". The first way to say it is "dasselbe" and the second way is "das gleiche". However both of them don't mean exactly the same if you use it in German. "Das gleiche" just assumes that something equals something else while "dasselbe" characterises the thing itself, assuming from the identity. Hmm... very interesting In Russian also there are two ways to say "the same": «такой же» ("das gleiche") и «тот же самый» ("dasselbe") By the way, the Google translator, of course, doing it wrong (in the case of German → Russian translation) Morgana
