Thoughts From a New Player (Lv. 1-20)

Hello all,

I figured it would be productive if I shared my thoughts of the game as a brand new player. These are just things that stick out to me. The fresh perspective may be valuable to someone. I will keep it brief.

*disclaimer: I may be wrong about things or overlooking things that may already be in the game. I welcome any advice and corrections. I have been playing for a few months and average 6-12 hours per week.

1. Initial Start  / Leveling  / First Map

When you start it’s self explanatory that you should complete the quests they give you. What’s not self explanatory is that questing is the only way to level. It seems like every quest in the game is a fetch or kill quest. I’ve done hundreds by now. At the beginning it really soured me.

“How boring” I thought.

Then I realized, “What’s the difference between a million fetch quests and grinding one spot for a million hours?”

What’s more is that with a structure like this it probably cuts down on bots. I doubt people would have the same perspective and instead drop the game.

I did NOT see anyone on the first map during my entire stay. I started to see people in the second map and when I got to the third map I saw even more. I don’t know if I’ve seen anyone that is truly new and not playing an alt. I think encouraging new players is imperative and I’m not sure how much “bandwidth” is dedicated to this.

2. Inventory Space

This seems to be a real “gotcha”. It fills up very quickly and bags are hard to come by. You have to purchase coins which may be prohibitive to those who can’t spend money. I suppose there is the option to grind the first map dungeons and sell the loot to buy the bags. The system is a a drag. The lack of bank space compounds this.

3. Pvp

I queued for pvp for a number of days between levels 1-15. I didn’t find a match. I haven’t queued for pvp since I saw someone my level clear with ease a dungeon on the horror map with ease when I could barely beat the first mob.

An early game pvp emphasis with a way to level the playing field for new players vs. alts could encourage more people to the game and empower them to stick around. IE every set number of hours you can queue and be teleported to a location and fight a bunch of people within your level range but regardless of your gear you are set to a certain amount of stats.

4. Community / Helpfulness

Everyone is incredibly nice and generous. There are a lot of quests, bosses, and dungeons that I (nor a party of players like myself) would have been able to defeat. Whenever I asked for help in world chat or discord I had several people reach out and dedicate time and give me items, and when I offered cash shop items in return they all declined.

Bottom line: People have been very pleasant and helpful and I will look to pay that forward.

*Honorable mention to “Lil Vamp”. He piled bodies at my feet and I really enjoyed that skill. To me it was a fun holiday event addition. I hope there’s one for Christmas.

5. Gear / Guides / Enhancements

This may be a nitpick however some of the guides on the forums seem a bit out of date. The guides for things like gear, crystals,  and relics are terse. I’m still learning these things. Perhaps incentivizing people to keep up to date guides may be worthwhile.

This is by no means meant to be a Monday-morning quarterback of the Warspear team. I just wanted to share my perspective. I am enjoying the game so far and looking forward to pvp, dungeons, and holiday events.

Hello!

I do agree that the quests can be a bit boring but I have played WoW and it's not much different than that game aside from the fact one is 3d and the other is 2d.

Some events do provide free bags but yeah they can be quite expensive as a f2p player.

Early game pvp is quite difficult than higher level pvp but do save your arena points for higher level stuff.

Guides are out of date but I do think that the gear itself is the same throughout the entire game.

It is true that the first map is not very populated due to the lack of newbies. Did you manage to clear the second map, town 5 of Irselnort? I think the quests in this town need to be adjusted in difficulty, and the chance of meeting Vitold in the swamp should be increased. No longer having to earn reputation to unlock dungeons in Ayvondil was the best update of the year.

Bags have actually increased considerably along with personal storage. However, it can still be small for new players who have a hard time distinguishing between useless items in a bag. I wouldn't mind seeing a bag as a reward for the final boss quest on the first map.

As the max level increased, the arena was split into too many level ranges. The lv31-34(or lv18-34 5s and crucible) arena is always active.

Please note that quests in the PvP tavern are now worked for players in two level ranges (3-17 levels and 18-34 levels). Additionally, now the character's level and their equipment in the PvP tavern will change depending on the level range, up to a maximum of 17 or 34 levels.

It would be nice if this could bring back the glory of the old PVP cave in the event area.

As for guides, it often helps to look at the Russian forum with a translator. Even with the translator, the translation is not smooth, but there is a lot of information there.
