Didn't you get your sword after completing quest, you get it when you kill the genie if I remember correctly. If got that far yet.

guards drop the best weapons (bow, 1hand axe, 2hand axe, 1hand sword, 2hand sword, staff, shield..) correct me if i m wrong ;)
