Shadow Veil Scam and Rework

I am proposing an idea that changes the output and outcome of Shadow Veil talent.

 

First of all, this following part is my personal opinion but it is relevant to the topic. Why is this talent scamming rogues?

Shadow Veil is a scam in a way it is presenting numbers that look great but isn't that good. What do you think when you first read the description that the talent lets you keep 25% of Stealth damage bonus?

 

This number looks good but it is as if it's hiding it's actual number which is 5-16.5% damage bonus.

 

This talent doesn't let you keep 25% of your damage bonus. It keeps 25% of your increased damage margin when you are in Stealth.

 

So in 1/5 Stealth, you get 5-6.5% damage bonus when you unstealth. And up to 16.5% bonus at 5/5 Stealth with other Stealth talents.

 

If a rogue has 1k base damage (I am using this number because it is easier), in stealth, say (assume no other buffs involved) your damage becomes 1.66k because it increases damage by 66% with Stealth mini talents.

 

Once the talent activates, you won't get 1.25k damage (25% damage buff), instead your damage becomes 1.165 for 6 seconds.

 

Because it is 25% of 660 damage instead of 25% of 1000 damage. The number will get lower if you have other buffs involved like accessories with %, pots, etc. Making the numbers smaller and smaller.

 

25% of the margin is not enough buff for 6 second.

 

And here is the thing, using Stealth requires time and both in pve and pvp this activation time is a big disadvantage compared to classes with permanent damage bonus. I really want devs to reconsider what bonus we keep. Instead of the margin, make it the amount of bonus from our base damage.

 

Now for the rework idea:

 

Instead of giving us flat 25% damage bonus for 6 seconds, make the talent decrease the power of stealth by 16% every second up to 20% remaining power when the character gets out of Stealth.

 

So the first hit is 100% damage bonus, then 84, 68, 52, 36, 20% damage bonus and it stops there. Same 6 seconds, but better.

 

Also, this talent will be much better if it keeps the power of the Stealth instead of the margin of our damage before and after Stealth.

 

It's not like we have other power buffs. I am sure it's not asking for too much.

 

So in case of keeping the power of Stealth, the number becomes (assume 5/5 Sealth with 6% extra bonus from talent):

 

66% on first hit, immediately becomes

55.4%, lasts for 1 sec

44.8%, lasts for 1 sec

34.3%, lasts for 1 sec

23.8%, 1 sec

13.2%, 1 sec.

 

Total 6 second of buff.

Pretty nice idea tbh, but i have a feeling even with this rework, rogue's dmg in pve would still be far away from other dmg classes. The gap is big i noticed. And i dunno if this buff alone could make it compete with other dmgers but all in all a great breakdown of that scam talent and a good suggestion, goodjob

Definitely not gonna solve everything but it will help. Also yes, the point of this topic is to expose the real numbers behind this talent so that people don't use the "but rogue gets huge damage bonus from stealth" excuse when we ask for damage buff.

 

And I have another post pending. It will be about the first 3 key class talents. That one will focus more on solving the problems because I will also point out my take on reflexes update and tirelessness talent change and why it didn't solve the problem they (seemingly) intend to solve.
