Greetings, and welcome to my Mage class guide. Hope you enjoy reading this as much as i enjoyed typing this all down.

Alright, so, title says Mage class guide, what im trying to accomplish by typing all this down is to explain skills usage, different builds and so on. I'll try to be as clear as possible throughout the whole guide, any questions, just do a post with them.

~ Table of Contents ~

1) Introduction to Mage class

2) Skills

1) Introduction to Mage Class

So you've downloaded Warspear Online, made a new account, and picked out the Mage as your character. As you can see in the early screen before you name your character:

A mage has:

~An incredible offensive side, if not the best out of all caster classes in the game. *if we count pure damage.

~A good balance in defence. (Note: See section 2) for further information)

~Poor at supporting. (protecting team allies).

You did well and chose Mage if you like fireworks and things that go boom, as the class is the best at it. You'll have an easy time with quests due to extreme power (3 damage skills, with 2 of them being AoE! (Area of Effect)), a good side in defending yourself with Illusory Chains / Sun shield (info in 3) Skills) but you won't be able to support your allies, seeing how a mage is a pure offensive/magic tank class.

2) Skills

Like all the classes in Warspear Online, Mage has it's own unique skills, which are rather good looking (Sun Shield) and helping you travel a bit faster (Time Warp).

Let's see them indepth:

*(Screenshots from ingame menu, which you can access at Menu > Character > Skills, and then click/tap on the skill you'd like to read the info of. .Gif files made by me using benderconverter.com site, 'cause no other actually worked for me plus new to .gif converting, apologies.)

~Fireball

Your casual burning skill. With a low cooldown of 7 seconds and a 5 yard range, along the low mana cost, it'll be your base skill to use to kill fast anything in your path.

~Level it if you want a base offensive skill to use everywhere

~Don't level it if you're going to a different path. (See section 3) Skill Builds)

~ Time Warp

Sweet burn! That's one of Mage's best skills, with a 5 yard range, 12 second cooldown, Damage close/equal of Fireball (at same level), all in a controllable 3x3 AoE skill! Best skill of Mage in my opinion.

~Level it if you're going in the offensive side

~Don't level if you're straying in a different path. (See section 3) Skill Builds)

~ Stone Shatters

Опубликованное фото

Ow! Stones falling! Haha, this skill is actually one of the good looking ones, but in my opinion poor in damage unless you level it to max, which then again it's still bested by Time Warp, considering both have same cooldowns anyway. Stone Shatters is like Time Warp, without the controllable AoE, which mean's it's only in a 3x3 around the mage, and you can't control where the Stone Shatters will fall. Good use of this is in large crowds of enemies/mobs, or to attempt and un-stealth rogues around you.

~Level this skill if you're going all out offensive

~Don't bother with it much if you're not going that way.

~ Illusory Chains

Опубликованное фото

Finally something defensive, seeing how past 3 skills were in the offensive side. 14 seconds cooldown and a good push of enemies if levelled enough make this skill worthy to look at. Best anti-melee skill you have, especially if maxed out, pushing enemies 5 yards away from your character, allowing for great escapes or great view effects. (Try to chain in the middle of a crowd, you'll be the star of the day, and probably a dead one after they notice you hahah) Also considering Sun Shield gives no Physical Defence, it's good to have it since there's melees to worry about.

~I suggest you level this to max if you're going as on the defensive side

~Don't level it if you're going full offense

~Give it a few skill points if you're going in a balance skill asset.

~ Sun Shield

Опубликованное фото

The skill that makes the Mages stand out of the rest classes- Sun Shield! It's only casted on your own character, cannot be casted on allies, but that makes it special, doesn't it? It is the best Magic defence skill, giving a fixed amount of magic defence, which scales with your own magic defence. That meaning, more def = more bonus from shield.

This skill maxed out makes a Mage a hard nut to break, especially if combined with armors enchanted with magical defence runes, to assist in the final result.

~Definitely max it out if you're going as a magic tank/PvP versus other casters/Labyrinth end bosses

~Don't max it out if you're going full offense

~Give it some points if balance set, just for the sake of defence.

That is for skills now, let's move onto the next section!

3) Skill Builds

So you've seen the lines "(Check section 3) Skill Builds)" on the 2) Skills section, and wondered what it meant? Well here i'll type most known skill builds for a mage, giving the uses, pros and cons of each.

~Full Offensive Build

5 Fireball

5 Time Warp

5 Stone Shatters

1 Illusory Chains

1 Sun Shield

This is the full offensive skill build a mage can have. You simply ditch defence (Chains, Shield) and gain offense.

Pros: Great damage output, High burst damage

Cons: Easy prey for melees (lv1 chains doesn't really push far away to save you), Low magic resists (lv1 Shield gives 4% in all, which is pretty low)

~Defensive Build

5 Fireball

1 Time Warp

1 Stone Shatters

5 Illusory Chains

5 Sun Shield

This is the greatest defence build you can get. You can ditch lv5 fireball and level any other skill to max or share the skill points within Fireball/Warp/Shatters, just keep Chains and Shield maxed.

Pros: Extremely protected, lv5 chains pushing melees 5 yards away giving you time to attack/run, and lv5 shield giving you a great 12% in all magic resists, making you able to handle more hits from casters.

Cons: Low damage, depends on what skill will you level. Shared skill points can be the best choice to handle a bit of offense.

~Hybrid Offense/Defence

5 Fireball

5 Time Warp

1 Stone Shatters

3 Illusory Chains

3 Sun Shield

Well this is pretty much an all around in damage and self defence, it's the skill build I, myself use and work out well. It's best to use equipment with magic resist runes enchanted with this so you benefit more with sun shield too.

Pros: Balance in offense and defence

Cons: Not too much damage, not too much defence

~

There's a lot more builds but it's just altered variations of the 3 mentioned above. Experiment yourself and try to create something that suits your gameplay.

4) Equipments

Equipments, eh? That's actually a good thing to look at in different levels.

Level 1 to 9:

Should buy and use Novice Mage Set from the start till all the way to 8

Level 9 to 13:

Should buy the Level 9 set from first town's shop in Langasard, armors/accessories/staff

Level 13 to 15:

Should either hunt bosses scattered around Irselnort to gather the Level13 magic attack set, or buy them from other players.

Level 15 to 17:

~Should have done Chainless Quests

You can use Berengar's Light Hood and Vestment which you can buy from Lenar at the top part of Nadir, you get bonus hp which helps taking more hits, or you can buy any magic attack armor with stats which seem more useful to your gameplay, example, Berengar despite/power/fury for critical/accuracy/hp parts. You can get gloves/shoes of the aforementioned sets by hunting Berengar Guards, a team of 3 bosses in Irselnort, or buy them from other players.

Level 17 to 18:

Should have bought/hunted the Desert Wanderer's set if you're going in late Labyrinth bosses and tanking them, and you should have done enough arena to have the full Level 17 arena set including staff. It'll be your base set to use versus other players, so it might be good to have at least 2 Arena hoods and gloves, one pair for physical defence and another for magic defence.

Lv18 to 20:

Well here you can mix your sets. You can use Guiding Thread Hood and Shoes for extra HP, and use anything your heart desires in the rest body pieces. You can mix any set of the above, but keep it up-to-level.  Keep the resilience high if you're going to be PvPing a lot, and keep your defence's high if you're going to be tanking a lot. It's all up to your gameplay. Invest in the Radiant Fame/Violent Storm/Impenetrable Shroud set if you like to quest a lot, as it gives extra critical and accuracy (but low HP), or you can buy full Guiding Thread set to get a nice bonus of HP & Critical but lacks the high accuracy Radiant Fame/Violent Storm/Impenetrable Shroud set gives. You can also mix 2 pieces of each of aforementioned set to gain double accuracy!

Thanks for reading. Any mistake/spelling error/etc, please do a post with it. Im also open to take positive criticism, information and suggestions of things i should add. Mage is a wonderful class and i love it, having mained mage for a year and 2 months now.

I haven't typed this only to try and win in the competition, but also to guide a few people whom i see going the wrong way.

A guide about a class is supposed to help make people understand their class, hence to play it better. Saying you hope it won't help anyone play better is like saying you want the guide to be bad/it is bad.

Ohh, sry for not being clearer. I was actually joking. Since I am a mc I don't want to fight to hard enemies and therefore it is "bad" if mages become better at using their class. But ofc they will probably learn from this guide since it is good. :good:

On which skill out of all? The difference of 4 to 5 might be big or small on a few skills. It's like 30-50* extra damage on Fireball and Warp, 20* more damage at Stone Shatters, 1 more yard push at Illusory Chains, and 2% more magic resists at Sun Shield.

*Damage out of sheer guess, but it's around that, so don't worry

I see mage is the only ranged class in game who has to go near the opponent to do damage.

Kudos to those who play mage

Really nice guide ; Detailed and magnetic , helped me understand my opponent

Guess it also helps the pros , Good luck :clapping:

Good job  The update has affected many players... The change of the Magic Defenses to the Magic Resistance.

I hope Warspear Team fix skill Sun Magic  to affecting members into party.

  • 3 months later...

The same priority as every other caster, no big difference, aim for high resilience with good enough accuracy, because you always want to hit your enemy with the skills, anything else comes to personal preference
